Please join us for a one hour zoom with Dr. Benjamin Garber where he will share his story of surviving the Holocaust, followed by a question and answer.
At the young age of three, Ben remembers seeing German airplanes overhead while they dropped bombs on his home town of Wilna, Poland. He was uprooted from his comfortable life and forced to relocate to cramped conditions in a small, old area of the city along with most other Jews. He narrowly escaped the Wilno Ghetto with his mother, not knowing that worse conditions lay ahead. Miraculously, Ben and his mother endured hiding in an underground cellar that was cold, damp, and dark for eleven months. How they survived is a testament to the human spirit and resilience.
When Ben was liberated in the summer of 1944, he was only eight years old, and had already lived a lifetime. Due to pressure from his children, Ben Garber decided to finally document his remarkable story about how he survived the Holocaust. "A Child of the Ghetto" is now available.
